Professionally diagnosed lady with Autism here, mostly to put my two cents in. Do I think we autistic people should have positive representation in some form? Yes, I do. But autism is complex as people are, and no two people with autism are the same. I think it should be left more for young children instead of adults so they can understand it a bit better, and well, we don't need representation ALL the time! It's no fun having something stuffed down your throat nonstop.
Not to mention, it’d be kinda hard to represent autism in media without being offensive to others. A friend of mine explained this as we discussed how characters like Sheldon Cooper(Big Bang Theory) would be a good example of such a character to relate to. But you’re right.
