Thank you for answering my question. I posted this to my own blog a little bit ago and figured sharing it here might clear up some confusion. Referencing, for those out there that don’t know, doesn’t mean tracing something. It means using the reference as a model. Some people ref very heavily and almost redraw (me) at times, but there’s still a difference between that and tracing. Reference found here. This is a TLK crossover piece of mine. Thanks again.

So… I called out this user for tracing when I saw a journal about it show up in my notifications on dA, and this is what one of the things they said in response to me and the other user… Like, seriously?
It was obvious that you traced, yet you’re denying it with your pants on fire because of your lying. :T They took two of the traced artworks down, but I feel like a lot of stuff they made is traced in some way.
They also have just dug their grave a lot more with how they’ve been acting in the comments of this journal.
I just saw that and had a hearty laugh at their oh so obvious lying. I called them out before because I recognized their ‘art’ but there wasn’t enough proof at the time so I had to pull back. Nice to see that their shit is being flung back into their face. This drama reminds me of the many 6 year olds lying in drama they started back on TLKFAA.

Woah, base-grayscale adopts…
Grayscale adopts just aren’t pretty. It’s like they just took a grayscale traced base and just colored in the eyes with 0 effort or imagination hoping for a fast point or two. You wanna make points? Don’t use neon colors and don’t do this.
As an artist and someone that identifies with goth subculture all this edgy childish “goth” TLK characters annoy the hell out of me.
By the way just because you put a choker and dark eyeliner on a Disney character it doesn’t make it yours.
It’s like they’re making fun of Goth culture but they don’t know squat about it.
Gotta love how this base fails miserably on character placement.
I always assumed that this base was using perspective to accomodate size misproportions.
This isn’t Scar, this is a supah-originul OC a daughter of Scar that looks exactly like him (even has the same scar!) “because genetics”.
I’m currently in the process of talking sense into the “character”’s owner. Copying desingns is nothing but theft.
This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. No wait. A Mheetu that looks like this with two added scars over the original one is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.
