Fuck yea terrible Lion King fandom

Looks like business is going to pick up soon on this blog thanks to RealitySquared’s bungling.

Original by Tombancroft of deviantART.

Got a “Photoshop filter on your stuff = my work” thief on deviantART.

It’s amazing how art theft has risen on deviantART thanks to RealitySquared’s recent bastard move.

Original image is Simba and Nala doing the heart thing with their tail tuft. I can’t remember or find who made it as it appears they took it down for this express reason. Willing to bet they got their ‘reference’ off fanpop.

That’s not how copyright works and I really doubt they’re the artist Vance Gerry.

And then there’s this moron trying to copyright fucking neck fur.

All I did was try to explain to them that they can’t use someone else’s artwork like this. 90% of this pathetic fandom claims that telling them they need permission to use fan works is harassment of some sort. And this is fucking pathetic.

Here we go with more “Fan art is art theft” argument.

Let me reiterate myself. Companies like Disney enjoy fan art for their works. They think of it as free advertisement. If you want to complain to artists for taking commissions on pre existing ideas, then why not bitch and complain at the Transformers artists for IDW and Hub network? They happily take commissions because Hub and Hasbro has no qualm with it. If you think that fan art isn’t real art, you need your head reexamined because there have been plenty of people who get hired working on projects because of their fan works and how they caught the employer’s attention. How many times must I pound this into your thick skulls?

I think this person deserves the Moron of the day award

I tried telling them that posting screenshots to deviantART isn’t allowed in a polite manner, they go off on me about how I have fan art better than their whateveritsupposetobe in their gallery and how that exempts me from telling them politely about the rules to which they then go on to claim that making adoptables means I work at Disney. I’d love to work at Disney, but only if I can color in their line works for their merchandising clip art.

I would like to take a moment of your time, if you collect Lion King merchandising from sellers online, to talk about not getting scammed.

There have been people who do scam others by taking photos from other various TLK collections posted online and claim it is their items in order to gain a quick buck. Now I know this is common on eBay, however on deviantART lately, people have been posting professionally scanned images found on Google claiming it’s their property and that they’re trying to sell it.

What you can do to avoid getting scammed on deviantART:

  1. Check to make sure it’s not a reposted image. You can do that by right clicking the image, copy the image address, take the url over to Google, and search by image. If it comes up as multiple sources that are the same resolution. Avoid the drama by backing off, and reporting the reposted image silently.
  2. Make sure that their image is a legit photograph. If they can prove to you that it is indeed theirs, it can’t hurt to ask them to send another photo to you privately through note. If they happily oblige and send you an updated photo of their item, go ahead and make the deal.
  3. If the dealer is selling merchandising from someone else’s TLK collection on deviantART, quietly notify the owners of the situation so that they can handle it via note. deviantART staff don’t allow 3rd party reporting unless it’s of screenshots.
  4. If the dealer behaves like a 6 year old when confronted about details, it’s best to back off. Chances are they’re most likely newbs to deviantART and don’t know how to behave to people due to having lived under a rock most of their life. Or, they feel they’re cornered and start to fight back. It’s best to just back off this funbus.

If you follow these simple guidelines, you will not be scammed on deviantART.
