I'm trying to have the first few generations of lions to have mainly darker fur and the gold fur didn't start coming around until ahadi and uru and ahadi is very power hungry. He wants his appearance to go forward basically which is why he chooses Mufasa even though Taka opened his eyes first, which is how heirs were chosen originally.
