Once again I keep wanting to do a test. Draw a referenced picture and overlay, just to see if it is possible to reference and not trace and still look like you did. I can reference most things near-exact and stuff like that always makes me nervous I'll get told I traced. (Then again I try and link to everything I use for a reference these days.)
I think as long as credit is given, along with permission obtained depending on the source, one shouldn’t have to worry about being called a tracer or thief. It all boils down to properly credited sources and permission grants in the end.
My mother used to use that "Opinions are like." line, but since I wasn't allowed to cuss I stole a variant from Garfield: "Opinions are like strings. Every yo-yo has one."
For the people badgering fandom artists, I'm gonna quote one of my stamp descriptions/recent posts here: Just because an artist is pretty much your dealer for your fandom addiction doesn’t give you a right to demand they feed it all their career. If an artist feels the need to move on, please respect that and let them. (The rest is currently the most recent post on my blog, so.) *salute*
Ohmg that is the best quote ever!
It’s funny because my friend circle has been comparing TLK thieves and their love affair for fan art to that of drug addiction.
"The Proud Family" did Ramadan at least once plus addressed the WWII anti-Japanese-esque effect that 9/11/01 had on Americans' view of Islam. (I read a nice book for kids called "Muslim Child" that was a good intro.) Anyway, if Disney buys Fox News... it's like a "joke" I make about all the anti-gun people in Hollywood. They should put their money where their mouth is and buy out the factories/companies. Then they have the power to change what that company does. Life Goals right there.
I think that gives Craig (RIP) too much credit. His Kimba site was more than that one page that became the go-to for comparison images. He wasn't the first to "note" those. I remember a website called "The Great Lion King Debate" in 95. Having emailed him a couple times, I can say he was nowhere near Were's level when talked to. Stubbornly nostalgic maybe, but not a fantruming brat. People like to argue. Or we wouldn't have the Nala's Eyes debate.
Ahh okay. See I never had the chance to chat with this person before he passed. So I don’t know what he was like. That’s awesome that few have and can vouch for him. I just honestly find his website annoying sometimes. Like trying to find screenshots, to find his comparisons pop up every ten images.
HAH Or the “Who’s yo daddy” debate!
kindlepreneur,com/ebook-piracy/ <- Since is this a blog for art theft and these steps look like they'd work for art theft as much as book piracy. Figured should share.
I stumbled upon some YT reviews of Goodtimes etc movies and... one review was of "The Lion and the King". OK, trainwreck. Best part? Their "screenshots" were from Leo the Lion aka Kimba. *facepalms* Have you ever seen any of that?
I’ve a bit of a thing for terrible lion movies. And I’m happy to say that MUH GOD I have seen The Lion and the King before. It’s a cheap, shitty Lion King knock off for a PS2 disc that came with a coloring game with, yes, you guessed it, Kimba coloring pages that have nothing to do with the included shitacular film.
Hi Kash. Would you mind letting your followers know AlleyHound on dA is looking to do TLK OC commissions? She's done good work for me in the past and I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks.
I’ve seen her work through recent Lisa drama. I definitely recommend followers checking her out.
I wonder if "The Lion King" would have been more powerful without Nala. Sarabi could have looked for help and found her son. Simba could have either gone to the graveyard alone or with the early concept friends. Nala exists mostly for comic relief and as "we know who this is instead of a random mate". Just a thought I've had as not every story needs a romance.
Hmm. It does make one wonder. I’m just glad Nala wasn’t given the generic-thick-english-accent-trope. I’ve had my belly full of love interests having the generic goody goody english accent. I’ve found myself losing respect or interest for a film when they do that.
What's your opinion of Kimba the White Lion/Lion King crossover fanfics? I have an idea for one (I actually did a pretty bad version of it years ago) where Kimba and Simba are cousins, and Kimba is who Simba meets in the desert, not Timon and Pumbaa. In the same topic, have you heard Jars of Clay's song, "Everything in Between"? I always heard it as Simba song that's an anti-Just Can't Wait To Be King. Sorta him realizing being king isn't everything he thought.
I don’t write fanfics for TLK anymore, but I do like the idea of them being friends and helping each other out in sticky situations.
Never heard of that song.
