Thank you for answering my question. I posted this to my own blog a little bit ago and figured sharing it here might clear up some confusion. Referencing, for those out there that don’t know, doesn’t mean tracing something. It means using the reference as a model. Some people ref very heavily and almost redraw (me) at times, but there’s still a difference between that and tracing. Reference found here. This is a TLK crossover piece of mine. Thanks again.

A very nice example of referencing!

She’s booty-full! Much prettier than those other ugly chipmunk lions! (/sarcasm)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Chipmunk fans are raving idiots. (If I could have it on a shirt without getting beat up I would)

I did the challenge using palette I saved from that site ages ago… One lioness, many flavours, using just that palette (aside from the eyes, obviously). There are probably many more that could have been made.

Whilst designing I decided to make her Sarabi’s mom since the pallette I chose started to remind me of her. I also gave her ear fluffs because I wanted an explanation of why Kion would have them when no one in his family seems to have them. Also elderly lionesses are underrated :D

Awesome design!

I drew this. Thoughts? :3

I finally did a thing and made my version of Ono’s mom! > > I’m still not a bit happy with her look, but eh, I tried, and I made Huruma at least look like she is related to Ono. Anyways, I do want someone else’s opinion on her, what do you think?

I like! I could see her being Ono’s mother.

Here’s that hyena redesign! I wanted to try to keep that main coat sort of gray-ish, so I thought a gray-brown might work.

Also like the idea of a multi-colored mane and streaks on the tail but wanted them to be more natural (or at least more natural than blue and green). I decided muted, desert-inspired colors might look nice.

Also made the little spots resemble freckles that eventually fade into the dark areas of her pelt.

I like! The color streaks in the hair are a nice touch. They’re subtle and in no way look out of place.

Time for some self-shaming xD
five or six years ago I used to took Cliparts and used them as reference..It looked awful everytime I look at it, I can’t stop laughing,

Well if it makes you feel any better, my art consists of referenced coloring pages. It doesn’t hurt to use official Disney artwork like clipart (which is coloring pages colored in) as your reference. It’s fair use after all. But hey, I see great improvement here for you!

I need advice-

Struggling with a Kopa design (He’s not an official character in my world yet (I am considering him being Vitani’s son). This is a sort of what if), you see I use SP Nala’s colours (I kinda prefer them to be honest and I have no clue why), and the only down side is he looks too…normal Nala xD But if he’s a perfect mix he still looks too Nalaish
Son of Scar, since he looked too much like Nala I tried to level it out with making him look facial wise like Scar but I am mixed. Does it look alright? ene

I think it looks great! I see nothing wrong with his design.
