This is the design. She’s a cave hyena and supposed to be my main online persona. My worry is her spots. Are they too much?

I know she doesn’t really fit TLK, but I’m hoping to get commissions of her sometime but worry if her design is too complicated.

She’s very pretty as a stand alone right now. But for sun on her rump, try simplifying it for the artists you want to commission. Maybe break it down to simplicity similar to her ankle markings on her hind feet?

Since we’re on the subject of character design.

I’ve had years of experience designing characters as well as absorbing information about character design for my own original projects. I also have friends in the character design industry from a professional’s view point who often times have helped me pick apart my original characters and make them realistic. These friends are an invaluable resource for me. And they all say the same thing. Simplicity is often the best choice. They also need flaws that make them likable. So what if a hyena is blue. Or a lion is Neon red. In their own universe it would work. But when you take a character, make it flawless and outlandish in color then call it Simba’s childhood girlfriend when he was growing up in the jungles. That’s hyper unrealistic to the TLK universe. Yes, TLK is unrealistic with color but they made it that way so that it stood out. When the designers went to Africa they were blown away by the vibrant colors in the local culture as well as in nature. So they applied that to character design. But the colors still retained a natural look.

The worst possible thing anyone can do is call someone Hitler or a Nazi for trying to help share their experience in character design.
