Fuck yea terrible Lion King fandom

Aus, honey, yer a goddamn idiot. First, your argument over Afros, braids, and dreadlocks should be culture locked, then claim we should be fighting back racism in the fandom when you don’t even lift a finger when someone is actually being racist, now this. If you actually did your research, you’d find out that the name Mufasa does have roots in Swahili, and that it has other meanings in different languages. In fact, it has a variant in Arabic, too, Mufas. Go outside and touch grass, and do your fucking research.

Chucklefuck acts like an edgy tiktoker when approached about their redrawing someone else’s fanart. It’s so hard for them to accept they were wrong in mistaking someone else’s fan art for clipart. He immediately DARVO’s the entire thing and gaslights the og artist for referencing from the film and thinks everyone’s a stupid kid™. Shows what kind of personality and character this guy has.

i think its funny that antis, the saints that they are (/s), call us proshitters, poopshitters, ect, and what do we call them? antis. 🐜 at best, but we aren't even saying that in a derogatory way! anti just sounds like ant!

on that note.. poopshitters? really? do you want to go fingerpainting after this? or is it nap time, you big baby

The curse of modern fandom is that it has allowed fans to get even closer to artists, but they won’t view the artists as people.

Human limits, human mistakes, human feelings, human needs, are never ascribed to artists, and when other fans rightfully point out, “hey, humans are making this, maybe don’t harass them or demand they cater to your personal tastes,” it gets shut down under, “uh, people who make popular mainstream things are automatically Public Figures who are also probably rich, so eat the rich and destroy artists over every perceived minor fault. <3”

Even though there’s, y'know, a really big strike currently going on because those artists are very much not rich or influential or in control of the bullshit.

The more friends I make in the various facets of the entertainment industry, and the more widely my own art gets shared, the more I realize that a lot of y'all genuinely don’t see artists as human beings if they meet some arbitrary standard of Being Known Online.

There is no amount of online fame that makes someone subhuman and a valid target for blatant disrespect and harassment.

Contrary to popular belief, you do not actually own and control a piece of art just because you like it a lot. The artists are not subject to your personal whims and tastes. They owe you nothing.

This kind of response always fascinates me, so while I’ve got you here, can I just ask: legal by what standards? Do you mean real world standards, where laws vary from country to country, and in the case of the US, state to state? Or do you mean the fictitious laws set in place in the fictional setting of the ship? What standard exactly should we use to tell people “you’re not allowed to enjoy this fictional thing?”

I know you didn’t mean any harm by your response, but I feel it’s important to reiterate that nothing gives anyone the right to police what people do in a fictional setting, full stop. Because at the end of the day, it’s fiction, it’s a fantasy, none of it is real, and so real world rules and standards do not apply. So, as long as you are not actively causing harm in a real world setting (i.e. harassing real people over fictional ships) then you do you.

a very important addition

Something that also drives me NUTS with this “uwu if it’s legal” shit is like…

Y'all only EVER. Say it about sexual stuff. “Oh wow well if it’s LEGAL-!” bitch my ass is out here playing DnD. I roleplay a devil-them who KILLS PEOPLE FOR A LIVING and yet I don’t see y'all rushing to tell me that those thoughts are illegal and bad and noooo you can’t do THAT, murder is ILLEGAL.

It’s because y'all are a bunch of puritan weirdos about sex and I reblogged a post that hits why right on the nose but dear FUCK y'all need to really unpack all of your weirdness about sex. Like. Right now. Because it’s all conservative bullshit.

How not to treat a complete stranger online.

People have lives outside of their online profiles and artists have reasons they do or don’t do art trades.

I do not owe you art. I do not owe you a response. No one owes you anything.

And if this is how you act toward people, then there’s a reason you’re being ignored.

I was reminded of this today and I wanna continue this as a PSA to all online creators, especially younger ones learning to navigate sharing their work online:

It is 100% OK to block someone who tries to bully or guilt you into creating something for them.

Sometimes you may feel obligated in order to keep up good relationships in a fandom space, but you never owe anyone art or writing outside of commissions. Please do not let people railroad you into something you don’t want to do.

You are allowed to set boundaries and turn down people or ignore them entirely if you want. I would always aim for politeness, but even if someone comes at you like this under the guise of “loving your work” you do not have to engage them.

Your talent is yours—unique, special, and one of a kind—to share with whom you want.
